There are two different parking lots for the Wissahickon Environmental Center.
Scroll down for driving and SEPTA directions.

The Upper Parking Lot (P-1) is accessible from the intersection of
Ridge Avenue/Pike and Northwestern Avenue.

Note:  GPS should take you to this lot. The address will say 990 on the sign. You are in the right place, but, you will NOT see the house. Follow trail to house. 

Buses and horse trailers may park in this lot.
We suggest this lot for all able-bodied adults.

The Tree House Parking Lot (P-2) is accessible from the intersection of Germantown Avenue/Pike and Northwestern Avenue.
This lot is for passenger vehicles only. (No Buses.)

This lot is open, but the driveway should only be used with vehicles that sit higher up, such as trucks and SUVs. 
Please use your best judgement and use at your own risk. 

We suggest this lot for individuals who need to park closer to the house and bathrooms, and families with small children.

Note: The Tree House driveway and parking lot is often inaccessible in snow/ice or after heavy rains. Plan to use P-1 off Ridge Ave in this weather.

Directions to the Tree House

The Tree House entrances are accessible by the L Bus on Germantown Avenue, and the 27 Bus on Ridge Ave.

From the L Bus (to Plymouth Meeting Mall NOT Erdenheim)

  • Get off at Chestnut Hill College, and walk towards Northwestern Ave (Bruno's Restaurant)

  • Turn onto Northwestern Ave towards the park.

  • Go .25 miles to stop sign. Walk up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL!

  • You will see the Tree House on your left. (A small beige house with green shutters.)

 

From the 27 Bus (to Plymouth Meeting Mall)

  • Get off at Pep Boys, and walk towards Northwestern Ave (Police & Fire Credit Union)

  • Turn onto Northwestern Ave towards the park.

  • Follow Northwestern Ave 0.6 mile and turn RIGHT into our Upper Parking Lot. You will NOT see the Tree House yet. 

  • Walk, following signs to the WISSAHICKON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (a small beige house with green tree cut outs on porch).

From Center City I -76

  • Take 76W towards Valley Forge.

  • Get off at Exit 340 A (right exit), Wissahickon Park/Mt Airy/Germantown. Exit ramp leads onto a bridge.

  • Stay in the right lane, go to Ridge Ave west. At the top of steep hill Ridge Ave turns left.

  • You go slightly right onto Hermit St. Hermit St. comes to a T at Henry Ave. Turn LEFT on Henry Ave.

  • Stay on Henry Ave. approx. 3.5 miles. past Andorra Shopping Center.(Henry Ave. becomes Ridge Pike.)

  • After shopping center look for three traffic lights. After the third light, look for Friendly’s on your right, immediately after Pep Boys.

  • Turn RIGHT at the Credit Union, onto Northwestern Ave.

  • Follow Northwestern Ave 0.6 mile and turn RIGHT into our parking lot at the sign the says Wissahickon Environmental Center and a green address sign with the numbers 990.

  • Walk, following signs to the WISSAHICKON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (a small beige house with green tree cut outs on porch).


Take Ridge Pike toward Philadelphia.

  • Go past the ACE conference center and golf course on the right.

  • Look for the Credit Union on your left. (Pep Boys is too far.)

  • Turn LEFT just before the Credit Union on to Northwestern Ave.

  • Follow Northwestern Ave 0.6 mile and turn RIGHT into our upper parking lot.

  • Walk, following signs to the WISSAHICKON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (a small beige house with green tree cut outs on porch).

 

From Roxborough, East Falls, and Center City

  • Take Henry Ave or Ridge Ave, away from the city, past the Andorra Shopping Center.

  • After the shopping center, count three traffic lights.

  • After shopping center look for three traffic lights. After the third light, look for Credit Union on your right, immediately after Pep Boys.

  • Follow Northwestern Ave. 0.6 mile and turn RIGHT into our parking lot.

  • Walk, following signs to the WISSAHICKON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (a small beige house with green tree cut outs on porch).

 

From Northeast Philadelphia

  • Take Route 1 south to Fox Street Exit. Take Fox Street to Queen Lane, turn LEFT.

  • Go to Henry Ave. Turn RIGHT Take Henry Ave away from the city, past the Andorra Shopping Center.

  • After shopping center look for three traffic lights. After the third light, look for Credit Union on your right, immediately after Pep Boys.

  • Turn RIGHT at the Credit Union, onto Northwestern Ave. Follow Northwestern Ave. 0.6 mile and turn RIGHT into our parking lot.

  • Walk, following signs to the WISSAHICKON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (a small beige house with green tree cut outs on porch).

Tree House Parking Lot  (P-2)

From Rte. 309

  • Take Exit for Chestnut Hill College/Paper Mill Road.

  • Take Paper Mill Road South to the intersection of Stenton Ave/Bethlehem Pike.     

  • Continue to Stenton Avenue, follow signs and bear right onto Stenton. Continue for one mile to the intersection of Stenton and Northwestern.  (Morris Arboretum should be on your left) 

  • Turn LEFT at light onto Northwestern Avenue.

  • Go 0.8 miles on Northwestern Avenue crossing Germantown Ave at the light.  

  • Go .25 miles to stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL! There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

  • The Tree House is a small beige house with green shutters.

 

From Center City I -76

  • Take I-76W.

  • Take Exit 340A (right exit), Wissahickon Park/Mt. Airy/Germantown.  Stay in the right lane, go to Ridge Ave North.

  • At the top of steep hill Ridge Ave turns left.  You go slightly right onto Hermit St.

  • Hermit St. comes to a T at Henry Ave.  Turn left on Henry Ave.

  • Stay on Henry Ave., for approx. 3.5 miles to the Andorra Shopping Center (McDonalds) Henry becomes Ridge Pike.

  • After Andorra Shopping Center, go approx. 3/4 miles to a traffic light at Bells’s Mill Road. Turn Right onto Bell’s Mill Road

  • Go 1+ mile to the traffic light at Germantown Ave.

  • Turn Left onto Germantown Ave.

  • Go approx 1 mile to traffic light at Northwestern Ave. Turn Left

  • Go .25 miles to stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL! There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

 

From Mt. Airy, Germantown (Germantown Ave.)

  • Take Germantown Ave. through Chestnut Hill, past the CH Hospital, down the hill, across the bridge to Northwestern Ave.

  • (Chestnut Hill College will be on your right) Turn LEFT.

  • Go .25 miles to stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL!  There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

 

From Mt. Airy, Germantown (Stenton Ave.)

  • Take Stenton Ave. north to Bethlehem Pike/Paper Mill Rd. intersection. Turn Left at the light to continue on Stenton Ave.

  • Follow Stenton Ave. an additional 0.8 mile to Northwestern Ave. Turn LEFT at light.

  • Go 0.8 miles passing Germantown Ave., to the stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL! 

  • There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

 

From Northeast Philadelphia

  • Follow Cottman Avenue/Route 73 West to Church Road.

  • Turn left and follow Church Road to Paper Mill Road. and turn left at  Paper Mill Road.

  • Continue to Stenton Avenue, follow signs and bear right onto Stenton.

  • Continue for one mile to the intersection of Stenton and Northwestern.

  • Turn left onto Northwestern Avenue; go past light at Germantown Avenue. Go .25 miles to stop sign.

  • Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL!  There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

 

From PA Turnpike 276

  • Take Exit 333: Norristown. From the exit, stay to the right to follow Germantown Pike East toward Philadelphia.

  • Continue for four miles to traffic light at Northwestern Ave. Turn RIGHT.

  • Go ¼ mile to stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL!  There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.

 

 From 476 North

  • Route 476 North to Exit 19: Germantown Pike East. Exit onto Chemical Road to the traffic light. Turn right onto Germantown Pike and continue for 3.5 miles to traffic light at Northwestern Ave.

  • Turn RIGHT. Go ¼ mile to stop sign. Drive up the dirt driveway that goes UPHILL! 

  • There is a parking lot in front of the Tree House.​
